Watercolor painting of BCharleena Lyles rendered in the red, orange, yellow, green, and purple found in a bag of Skittles candy.

Trayvon Martin

This piece was created on Procreate and released to Instagram for its initial publication.

"Trayvon Martin was only 17 when he was murdered. Florida’s Stand Your Ground laws prevented his killer from seeing proper justice, and the Republican Right even heralded his murderer as a kind of spokesperson for a time, until they too realized how crazy his killer was. You’d think murdering an innocent child would have made that clear to begin with, but I digress. Trayvon was found dead with a can of Arizona Tea and a bag of Skittles. This picture is rendered using only the colors found within a bag of Skittles. Trayvon’s life mattered."

More information about Trayvon Martin’s death can be found here.

Handwritten, cursive signature says "pea flower tea" in lowercase letters. The flower is a small sketch of a bloom, instead of the word for "flower".
If an idea doesn't explode orgasms of bright sparks, cascading into and setting my own dark places alight, then I probably won't write about it.

Tell me something that moves you.
